Frequently Asked Questions About Ear Surgery in Mexico
What are the steps to surgery?
This procedure can be performed on patients of all ages, even young children, as it will boost their self-esteem once the correction is made.
The second step is to have a medical examination to know your health status.
You will have lab work and a preoperative cardiac evaluation.
The third step is to take pictures before surgery and evaluate the areas to correct. Then, we will discuss the procedures and explain where the incisions will be made.
We’ll also discuss the risks of surgery, pre- and post-operative care, and recovery time.
We’ll schedule the date for your surgery, and you will be given the necessary information to prepare.
How long will my recovery take?
Recovery is gradual and will depend largely on the post-operative care. The first week is the most critical, and you will use a sport headband around the ears. Normal activities may be resumed after 72 hours. You may resume exercise after 4 weeks with consent from your surgeon. You must avoid sun exposure for the first 3 weeks.
How long will your procedure take and what type of anesthesia used?
This surgery lasts between 1 and 2 hours. The type of anesthesia we use is local anesthesia plus a light sedation typically known as “twilight” sedation. This is an outpatient procedure and does not require overnight hospitalization. You will stay in the hospital until full effects from the sedation have worn off, which is anywhere between 2 and 4 hours. In addition, your first follow up appointment will be scheduled.
What will my incisions look like?
The incisions for this procedure are performed along the natural crease behind the ear, so they are not visible from the front or side.
What are the risks or complications associated with otoplasty surgery?
As with any surgery, there are risks which will be evaluated and discussed in the consultation, some of which are important because of your own medical history. Some risks or complications include hematoma or opening of the wounds.
